Records of President Trump's tax returns finally revealed

On Sunday, news broke that The New York Times gained access to and analyzed President Donald Trump's long-hidden tax returns, multiple news sources reported.

The Washington Post reported that the Times found Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017, and he paid no federal income taxes in 10 of the previous 15 years, according to the Times.

The report from the Times revealed that Trump was able to pay so little in federal income taxes because his businesses reported significant losses, according to the Post.

The Times also reported that Trump filed many tax write-offs citing business expenses for questionable costs. One of the write-offs was $2.2 million for his Seven Springs estate, which he classified as an investment property even though the Trump Organization website described it as a "retreat for the Trump family," according to the Times.

On Sunday, Trump stated the report was, "totally fake news," according to CBS News. The Times also reported that Alan Garten, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, said, "most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate," but later took direct issue only with the amount of taxes Trump paid.
